My First Attempt at Tsumami Kanzashi
by yiddle on Jul.18, 2009, under Random
This is my first attempt at the Japanese art of Tsumami Kanzashi. Tsumami Kanzashi involves folding silk fabric into floral ornaments that are worn in the hair. Of course, I’ve yiddle-ized it a bit. I used cotton fabric and added buttons as embellishments. I probably won’t wear this in my hair either, but it might look cute on a hat or a scarf or a tote or a pillow (or or or). I’ll find some place to use it
I was thinking this would be a cool way to recycle old clothes. This was made from eight 2 1/2″ squares of fabric, so it would be easy to cut around stains or holes in old clothes.

friday fun – homemade mini donuts!
by yiddle on Jun.12, 2009, under Random, The Geekery, friday fun
I spotted a little mini donut pan today when I was out shopping. D loves mini donuts, so I brought it home. There was a recipe that came with the pan. D baked and I supervised. I love the sound effects he makes when he cooks. He did a really good job, I didn’t have to help much.

Dinner & A Movie – Ravioli & Yes Man
by yiddle on May.03, 2009, under Random
It’s become a bi-weekly tradition that D and I grab a movie to watch with Sunday dinner. Tonight we had some chicken ravioli and garlic bread and watched Yes Man. I thought it was cute, d thought it was sort of random. Jim Carrey looks old! How old is he now, anyway? Zooey Deschanel usually sort of bugs me (example: Tin Man), but she was not bad in this. Sort of made me wanna be a yes girl. Sort of.
I’m not so hot at writing reviews, so here’s what people think at Amazon:
P.S. Decided i’m too tired to do a Colors! painting tonight. I forgot to plug in the DS. Will catch up tomorrow.
Naturally Dyed Easter Devilled Eggs
by yiddle on Apr.03, 2009, under Random
I decided for fun to try my hand at using red cabbage for a natural dye. I’ve seen this on various other sites, like justbento.com and thought I’d give it a shot. (continue reading…)
bento beginnings…
by yiddle on Feb.16, 2009, under Random
yummy bento for d’s lunch tomorrow. the one i made for him is prettier than the one i made for me, i had a smaller box and had to cram stuff in.
on the menu:
- 1 tuna salad sandwich (whole wheat bread, tuna, onion, green onion, celery, miracle whip)
- 4 baby dill pickles
- rice crackers
- 1 kiwi (this was my first attempt at artfully cutting fruit, i think i did pretty good)
- 4 strawberries
- 1 small Japanese Bourbon Lumonde cookie (Bourbon is the brand name, it’s not a liqueur cookie)
- 1 chocolate chip cupcake, no frosting – we need to finish these off.
- 4 Japanese Super Lemon candies to share with friends (these are awesome, and great fun to inflict on friends and enemies alike)
