friday fun – homemade mini donuts!

by yiddle on Jun.12, 2009, under Random, The Geekery, friday fun |

I spotted a little mini donut pan today when I was out shopping. D loves mini donuts, so I brought it home. There was a recipe that came with the pan. D baked and I supervised. I love the sound effects he makes when he cooks. He did a really good job, I didn’t have to help much.

The instructions said to fill the holes in the pan 2/3 full of batter. Our first batch came out a little overflowing. I’m not sure if that was due to the recipe or if it was because D wasn’t very exact with his measuring, but we discovered that when one end is all covered up it’s sort of useful to make little bowls for jam.

Decorating was the most fun (aside from eating). We didn’t have any frosting and were too lazy to run get any so we improvised. We quickly ruled out powdered sugar glaze because it tasted too much like powdered sugar (duh). We shook some up with cinnamon and sugar. We shook some others up with sugar and some pink powdered candy, and some with a mix of powdered sugar and cocoa. We made a powdered sugar and cocoa glaze too and that was pretty good. D’s favorite were the ones filled with strawberry jam.

I’m not all that fond of the recipe, I think we can find a better one. D thinks they are awesome, and that’s all that really matters. Now we’re off to clean up our mess and then play 1 vs 100 on XBox live while we scarf down our donuts and milk.
