the biweekly contest at imaginefx theme is “black pearl” so i decided to start with a black pearl. and then it just kind of turned into this. apparently my brain was a little sleepy because this little guy came out of nowhere. i’ll probably fix it up a bit in photoshop yet if i have time for the imaginefx contest.

Colors! 2009 Week 8

so this week i didn’t wait until last minute, yay! someone picked “Middle Earth” as the theme for this week’s challenge over in the Colors! gallery forums, so i decided to paint Smaug the Magnificent. Here he is, sitting atop his hoarded treasure, along with the goblet he stole from me. That’s my name in elvish on the goblet. 
I was getting pretty lazy by the time I put the treasure in, but I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. May re-do this one in Painter at some point.

i like the colors on this one, but i know the perspective and proportion are off. i was just trying to get one done quick.
