WIP – Lollipops, layer 1
by yiddle on Aug.29, 2010, under Art, WIP
Fought off mosquitos this morning long enough to get layer 1 of Lollipops started. I’m having fun with layering and playing with mimicking my digital painting process. The finished piece will have 5 layers of glass, including the stained glass background.
lollipop, lollipop

Finally finished a painting last night! No pics of that one yet (it’s still a surprise) but this is a digital sketch I did this afternoon for the next one. I’ve been thinking of lollipops since I woke from a dream where all I could remember was the phrase “The big lollipops have to be on different teams”. Excited to try out some new materials and techniques on this one, more details soon!
A Diversion
by yiddle on Mar.03, 2010, under Art, Digital Painting, WIP
I needed a diversion from the moon bunnies. I know I need to just sit down and finish that one, but it feels flat and icky and I don’t know exactly what it needs so I’ve been putting it off. Tonight I thought I should at least paint something, and this is one I’ve wanted to start for a while; my sister, doing what she does best, loving up one of her babies. I got a good start (see first image) but there’s a bunch of shape changes I still need to make before I start refining (see second image).

The Enemy’s Gate is Down – Ender in the Battle Room, WIP 1
by yiddle on Apr.03, 2009, under Art, WIP
It’s been a while since I’ve posted any real attempts at artwork. Colors! paintings don’t count, not because Colors! isn’t a real app, but because those are more of an attempt just to make myself do some kind of art. Sometimes I get that icky “there’s no way I’ll ever have enough time to devote to being good, so whatever I produce is going to be crap” feeling. It’s horrible. I want to paint, need it so much it’s a physical feeling, but something stops me from starting.
That’s where WTCFF comes in. Thank God I have him around to believe in me. I tell him I’m in a slump, and he plays coach and cheerleader. He reminds me that I paint because I love it, and he gives me an assignment. And he follows up to make sure I’m doing it
When I told him I was stuck again, he gave me this assignment: Ender’s Game. The formic queen OR the battle room. GO! (continue reading…)
A Hiro Story, WIP Part 2
by yiddle on Dec.29, 2008, under Art, WIP
just got home from the holidays and started on panel 2. i am discovering that it’s tough to do a squint on a toddler without making him look wrinkled. but i did find a few resources after i closed the file for the night, so i will probably make some tweaks tomorrow. think i need to make the eyes/eyebrows less relaxed. here’s a link to some photos of grown up Hiro.
WIP – A Hiro Story
by yiddle on Dec.17, 2008, under Art, The Geekery, WIP
my friend’s little guy could totally be Hiro Nakamura’s mini-me. today over chat we came up with a fun little comic involving the Hiro mini-me and Thomas the Tank Engine. i’m flipping between Painter X and Photoshop, and this is my first piece on the new Cintiq, which i LOVE. i can’t wait to do more on this, but here’s the WIP so far on panel 1 (there will be 6 in all)
