Bunnies on Parade Bento

Tomorrow is the last day before my week long vacation, so I wanted to make something fun for my lunch. I bought some little 5 sectioned rolls at the grocery deli. I broke these apart and made mini Cuban pork sandwiches by adding swiss cheese, ham, roast pork, dill pickle, and whole grain mustard. I put three sections in my lunch and 5 in D’s. As I was trying to figure out how best to put them in my bento, I thought this would be a great time to use the little bunny picks I bought. Then I noticed they looked like hills, so I thought this would be a great time to use that cotton candy for the sky!
I still had a lot of room left, so I carved some trees into apple slices to make a woodsy background. After I carved the skin, I dipped them in water that had lemon juice added so that the apples wouldn’t turn brown. This was my first try at carving apple skins. I did an ok job. I think I could have done much better if I had really taken my time with it.
I added some grape tomatoes along the bottom and some edible Easter basket grass as well. The edible grass was sort of disappointing, it looks and tastes like styrofoam. I was hoping it had a nice sour apple taste, but it didn’t. Next time I will just julienne some cucumber or zucchini. I am happy with the way this one looks, but if I were to make it again I would have raised the apples up to be even with the sandwiches and the sky.
